Trion Bulldog Alumni Association Organization and
By-Laws
ARTICLE I
ORGANIZATION
SECTION 1:
The name of the organization shall be the Trion Bulldog Alumni Association.
SECTION 2:
The purpose of the Association shall be to assist in promoting quality educational experiences, a tradition and trademark of Trion Schools since its founding, for Trion students.
To accomplish this, the Association will first set up a Scholarship Program in honor and memory of faculty members. The scholarship will be given to graduates of Trion Schools to further their education at post-secondary and vocational schools. Guidelines for these scholarships will be established by a Scholarship Committee and approved by the entire Association.
The Association will also assist school administrators and staff in any way possible and feasible to enhance and improve the educational setting and programs for Trion’s students. Any request for assistance from school administrators and faculty will be handled on an individual basis and any action taken approved by the entire Association.
ARTICLE II
MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1:
GRADUATES OF TRION CITY SCHOOLS: All persons who shall graduate from Trion City Schools shall by virtue of graduation be eligible to become active members of the Trion Bulldog Alumni Association.
SECTION 2:
ACTIVE and RETIRED STAFF MEMBERS OF TRION CITY SCHOOLS: All active and retired staff members of Trion City Schools shall be eligible to become active members of the Association and to be considered and treated exactly as alumni members.
SECTION 3:
FRIENDS OF TRION CITY SCHOOLS: The Association may offer “Friends-of-Trion” membership to any individual who did not attend Trion Schools or attended but did not graduate from Trion High School who has shown a continued and substantial interest in its welfare and improvement. “Friends-of-Trion” members shall be treated exactly as alumni members.
ARTICLE III
MEETINGS
SECTION 1:
The Annual Meeting of the members of the Association shall be held in the fall on Friday of the Homecoming Football Game. At the Annual Meeting, the members shall elect officers and a Board of Directors and transact such other business as may be properly brought before the meeting. All new business must be presented to the Board of Directors in writing prior to the general meetings.
SECTION 2:
Other meetings will be held on the second Thursday of January and April. Special meetings may be called at any time by the President or upon written request of the Board of Directors to the President.
ARTICLE IV
OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES
SECTION 1:
The officers of the Association shall consist of the following who shall hold office for two years and until their successors are elected or qualified: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
SECTION 2:
PRESIDENT: The President shall have such powers and perform such duties as are specifically imposed upon him/her by the membership and/or Board of Directors. The President shall be an “ex Officio” member of all standing committees, call meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors, and preside as Chairperson at such meetings.
SECTION 3:
VICE PRESIDENT: The Vice President shall preside and assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President. The Vice President shall be the Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and the Nominating Committee and shall perform other duties as may be prescribed or requested by the Board of Directors.
SECTION 4:
SECRETARY: The Secretary shall attend all sessions, record all proceedings, and perform such duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors.
SECTION 5:
TREASURER: The Treasurer shall receive and handle appropriately contributions, maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, and write checks as necessary to fulfill obligations of the Association. All checks must have two signatures. Those authorized to sign checks will be determined by the Board of Directors.
ARTICLE V
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
SECTION 1:
The business of the Association shall be managed by its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall exercise all such powers of the Association to accomplish lawful acts and actions directed by these by-laws or required to be exercised or done by agreement among members.
SECTION 2:
The Board of Directors shall consist of the following: all officers of the Association; three members from the faculty (one preK-5, one 6-8, and one 9-12); the school superintendent; one member of the Trion Fifty Yard Club; one member of the Trion Band Booster Club; and two at-large members. Each member shall hold office for two years and until a successor is elected and qualified. To conduct any business, a quorum of eight members must be present.
SECTION 3:
The Board of Directors shall hold at least three meetings each year. (One in the fall, one in January, and one in April before the Membership meetings.)
ARTICLE VI
COMMITTEES
SECTION 1:
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: The purpose of this committee shall be to set standards and guidelines for awarding scholarships to Trion High School Seniors. The committee shall be made up of the following: the Vice President of the Association – Chairperson; a non-classroom teacher from the High School; two High School classroom teachers; one at-large member. Application for scholarships shall be available in January of each year with the Committee recommendations presented to the Association at the April meeting. Scholarship presentations will be made in May at Trion High School’s Honors Day Activities.
SECTION 2:
Other committees may be established by the Board of Directors or the Association as a whole as the need arises.
ARTICLE VII
ELECTIONS
SECTION 1:
ELIGIBILITY: Only those members of the Association who have voluntarily contributed to the Trion Bulldog Alumni Association the required amount to become active members during the current year shall be eligible to vote or be elected to an office of the Association.
SECTION 2:
The election of officers and members of the Board of Directors shall be as follows: Election shall be at the fall annual meeting. A nominating committee shall present a slate of officers to be voted on. However, nominations from the floor will also be accepted.
The voting will be done by a show of hands with the nominee for each office with the most votes declared the winner. Newly elected officers will be inducted for a term of two years beginning on the first o January of the upcoming year.
ARTICLE VIII
CONTRIBUTIONS
All contributions by members or others shall be deposited and used for advancement of the school system, scholarships, or the operation of the Association.
ARTICLE IX
THE SEAL
The seal of the Association shall consist of a white circle with the following words inscribed in blue in the inner circle: “TRION BULLDOG ALUMNI ASSOCIATION” with a blue bulldog in the middle.
ARTICLE X
CONTRIBUTIONS
The following schedule sets the minimum yearly dues for alumni, staff, and friends to be considered an active member of the Association.
SINGLE MEMBERSHIP $20.00
JOINT (HUSBAND & WIFE) $35.00
LIFETIME $150.00
Dues for each year are due and payable on or before January 1 of each year.
ARTICLE XI
ADDITIONAL RULES
The authority to formulate and adopt from time to time such additional rules and regulations as deemed necessary for the carrying on of the business of the Association and the accomplishment of its objectives is expressly delegated to the Board of Directors.
